INTRODUCTION
Acne scars can have a particularly significant impact upon your emotional state and self-esteem. Occurring as a direct result of acne, the effect of scarring can sometimes feel like a double blow to your confidence in your skin.
Scars are made up of collagen, which is naturally produced by your skin as a way of repairing itself, and they are indented due to intense inflammation of the epidermal skin layer. Many of us have a tendency to pick, pop and squeeze our active acne spots, nodules, cysts and pimples to diminish their appearance, and unfortunately this only leads to further inflammation, damage to nearby skin, skin discoloration and scarring as the acne causing bacteria buries deeper into the skin causing more collagen damage.
Scars from acne appear on the face as one of the following scar types:
- Ice Pick Scars – small, deep holes in the surface of your skin that look like the skin has been punctured with a sharp object.
- Rolling Scars – caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin giving the surface of the skin a rolling and uneven appearance.
- Hypertrophic Scars – Thickened or ‘keloid scars’
- Boxcar Scars – round or oval depressions, or craters, in the skin.
- Hyperpigmentation – refers to the red or dark marks that are left behind after a pimple heals. These marks, also called macules, are not scars, but are often confused with scars because they can last for months or even years before they fade.
A statement we hear a lot from men and women who have visited us to regain confidence in their skin is that acne scar home remedies do not work. They have tested acne scar creams and lotions and are frustrated that these over-the-counter remedies for acne scarring have little impact on diminishing the appearance of scarring. However, we have successfully treated many men and women with several methods of treatment for acne scars with mild to moderate discomfort levels depending on depth of scarring and number of treatments needed.
It’s important to keep in mind that Scar treatment are not suitable for people with active acne, If you are suffering from acne or a poor complexion, don’t despair. We have a variety of safe and effective treatments to suit your condition.
Alternatively, if you have scars that are not a result of acne, you may also benefit from our Scar Treatment.
Treat Acne Scars at Medi-Sculpt with the following recommended treatments:
DERMAPEN
The Dermapen™ was the original micro needling system made available to the world market. Dermapen™ treatments designed to create a safe healing response within the body to ignite natural collagen and elastin production from within the skin, without harsh side effects and downtime, along with repairing the surface layers to result in healthier skin; looking brighter, tighter, more even toned, refined pores and reduced wrinkles.
SUBCISION
Subcision is used to break up fibrous bands that cause rolling scars. This technique is performed under local anesthesia by inserting a needle under the skin, parallel to the skin surface. The needle is gently advanced or retracted in a piston-like motion, cutting the tethering bands. The procedure causes bruising which fades within seven days.
This approach, where appropriate, achieves significant improvement, usually within two to three sessions. Rolling acne scars respond particularly well to this technique.
SUBCISION WITH FILLERS
Injecting acne scars with fillers can be a very satisfying procedure with relatively minimal downtime. However, because acne scars may tether down the skin, some of these indented scars can not be smoothed out with filler alone.
FACIAL PEEL
When the acne has subsided, sometimes the scars from spots or picking can remain, leaving crater-like dimples, lumps, bumps and pigmentation. A Jessner’s peel can treat acne scars by re-texturising thickened or oily skin and improve the appearance of large pores.
In addition, it will exfoliate the skin’s upper layer and allow improved absorption of products. The simple in-office procedure takes less than an hour with minimal social downtime. You will have beautiful blemish free skin in less than 4 months.
